The tourism climate in Maharashtra, Goa, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka is the most conducive for hotels to operate in. The top five States have been ranked by HVS, a hospitality consulting and services organisation, in the second edition of its India State Ranking Survey 2011, released here on Wednesday.
“We hope this effort will inspire State Governments to do more for tourism… We also hope that the respective authorities would use this (survey) to identify areas in which they can help the States that have not performed well,” Mr Manav Thadani, Chairman, HVS South Asia, said in a company release.
According to the rankings, Karnataka vastly improved its position, moving from 12th place in 2009 to fourth in the current edition. “This is primarily due to two parameters: State expenditure on tourism and effectiveness of marketing campaign. Karnataka increased its budgetary provision for travel and tourism from 0.03 per cent to 0.22 per cent," said an HVS release.
